Reflection Time

Thank you to the EMEA Conference Planning Committee for puting together yet another great conference! What a fantastic week it was! Though it was extremelly busy and exhausting, in the end it was fabulously rewarding.

For me the week started with a weekend full of meetings. Then on Monday, the conference kicked off with a presentation from me and EMEA Conference Chair Mateja Jankovič, which was followed by a great keynote speaker who pointed out the ever-growing need for change. Don't fall into the trap of safe danger!

The week continued with great education, networking, and more meetings. We celebrated three big anniversaries as well: 35 years of Db2 for z/OS, 30 years of IDUG, and 25 years of Db2 for LUW. It was fantastic to see all the familiar faces and spend time with some very dear friends! Big thanks to all who participated—our vendors, attendees, speakers and volunteers all helped to make the conference a big success!

Malta proved to be a great conference location after all. :) Thank you to everyone who recognized the possibilites and supported the idea of trying something new!

Please make sure you fill out the post-conference survey. We use your feedback to help make future IDUG events even better!

After the busiest time of the year, and a short, much-needed break, there usually comes a time of reflection. For most people this occurs around New Year's, as they make resolutions and big decisions for the future. For me, it's the time after the EMEA conference. After the huge amount of work needed to prepare all activities before and during the conference, after the energizing week at the conference and some rest afterwards, it seems like a perfect time to reflect on what was done and what's still on the horizon.

That works well for me and also for IDUG as a whole. In the following period, IDUG leadership will be wrapping up the year, looking ahead, considering necessary changes and improvements to make our organization better and greater!

I'm already looking forward to all the new learning opportunities, great events, new friends, and all the other growth and joy that comes with being a part of IDUG!

Until next time—enjoy the holiday season!

Mirna
