Abstract Deadline Extended To November 12, 2021

The International Db2 Users Group (IDUG) continues to accept abstracts for an opportunity to present at the IDUG 2022 North America Db2 Tech Conference (IDUG 2022 NA)! The deadline for submissions has been extended to 5pm Eastern time on Friday, November 12, 2021.

Click here to submit an abstract [note: you must be signed in to www.IDUG.org to access the form].

Back by popular demand, we're offering presentation lengths of 30 and 60 minutes, so you can choose which works best for you. To help inspire you, here are some of the most popular session categories:

    • Db2 VNext
    • Application Development
    • DevOps
    • How-To Guides (GitHub with Db2, Secure Connections, Migrations, etc.)
    • Back to Basics: Getting Started with Db2 for the New DBA & Developer
    • Automation with Db2
    • Journey to the Cloud
    • Performance, Availability & Security
    • User Experiences & Best Practices: What Did You Achieve with Db2?
    • Db2 & Non-Standard Data Types (JSON, etc.)

When submitting an abstract, please include as much detail as possible-and don't forget to include your session objectives, target audiences and technical areas to be covered. All of these elements are considered by IDUG when selecting sessions for the conference. You will receive an automatic confirmation email that your abstract was received; you will be notified whether a session has been accepted by February 25, 2022.

We anticipate the announcement with the date and location for IDUG 2022 NA soon. In the meantime, we encourage you to submit an abstract as we are actively seeking presenters. It does not matter whether you have been a speaker at IDUG events before, if you have participated as an attendee, or even if this would be your first experience with us. We value your expertise, we welcome your passion, and we will embrace your abstract.

If you have any questions about this event or this abstract process, please reach out to Chris Muncan at christopher_muncan@manulife.ca. We look forward to hearing from you!

I wanted to elaborate a little bit on the session categories.

In traditional IDUG NA conferences, we would have a z/OS 1 & 2, LUW 1 & 2 and 2-4 other tracks.  This year, I am changing it up a little bit.  We will still have 1 z/OS and 1 LUW, but those tracks will be focused on the database itself with things like the VNext, compiler, optimizer, inner workings of the database and alongside these, there will be 4 "themed" tracks:

    1. DevOps
    2. Journey to the Cloud
    3. Application Development
    4. Back to Basics -- for the new and newer DBA

I am so thrilled to have this opportunity to change things up a little bit especially with the introduction of Back to Basics.  What I'm really looking for are LOTS of beginner topics for the DBA who has just started and wanting to get a solid understanding of how the database works.

Think WAYYYY back to when you first started working with Db2, what did you do to become the expert you are today?  What really is a Buffer Pool?  Breakdown indexes for me and why are they good and why can they be bad? If you're a consultant (wink wink nudge nudge Gold Consultants), what do you do when you are new in a shop for the first 30, 60, 90 days and how do you familiarize yourself with an unknown environment?

These are just some of the ideas of what you can think about when preparing your submission for the Back to Basics track.

I look forward to seeing the submissions!!
