AUTOBIND messages

    Esteemed Listers,
Where can we find the AUTOBIND messages ?
When it fails the failed job / TRAN gets a -904.
But can we see the AUTOBIND messages in DB2MSTR or SYSLOG ?
Or if we turn on any trace can we see the AUTOBIND messages ?

Can we see messages only when AUTOBIND fails or can we also see messages like "AUTOBIND successfully performed on .... package"  etc ?

    Please advise.

    Thanks in advance

I think there is a AHA Idea for exactly this (see later) . To externalize to the MSTR when a package goes invalid thus giving the chance of looking at it before the autobind. Naturally you can extract from the Db2 log and look for updates to the SYSPACKAGE table. I also do not know of any existing IFCID that returns what you want to know...sounds like an AHA idea to me. IFI pair 108/109 trace any BIND (including Autobind as QW0108T = 'A') so that might help!

The APAR that really helps is PH13550 for Db2 12 where IBM enhanced the DSNT500I message:

Message DSNT500I will be issued to console:

      DSNT500I  csect-name RESOURCE UNAVAILABLE

                REASON reason-code

                TYPE resource-type

                NAME resource-name

when an autobind fails which leads to the

inoperative state being placed on the package.

The following is a description of the tokens in console

    message DSNT500I:

      reason-code: 00E30305 (existing)

resource-type: 00000804 (new to include the version

                               identifier in resource-name)

      resource-name: COLLECTION.PACKAGE.(VERSION)

(if there is no version identifier, it will

                     be COLLECTION.PACKAGE.() )

To facilitate the REBIND command, the

resource-name in DSNT500I will be enclosed

                     with quotation mark ("):

                       "COLLECTION"."PACKAGE".("VERSION")

If the version identifier doesn't exist:

                       "COLLECTION"."PACKAGE".()

    Makes it much easier!

    Thanks Roy.
So when the  DSNT500I  message is issued to the console , can we view it in SYS LOG later or  it depends on local settings ?
We had a situation where the package went to IN OPERATIVE status, so we were trying to see if any AUTOBIND messages could be located.
but we couldnt find it in SYSLOG or MSTR.
When we performed manual BIND it worked and the package became active.
So we are not sure why AUTOBIND failed.
So we were trying to identify any messages to find what could have caused the AUTOBIND to fail

If you have the PTF applied you should get a MSTR message... Simple test is to create a little static package with a select on a test PBG with maxpartitions 1 and then ALTER it to be maxpartitions 2 - this invalidates the package. Then by next execute it will attempt AUTO REBIND and if that fails, or the execute auth is gone, then the package will go INOPERATIVE and you should get the new message.

    Thanks Roy.
The test system had that PTF, and we were able to recreate / test as suggested and we could see the messages in MSTR.

Thanks a lot for clarifying our questions.
