First DB2 Cobra Experiences: Index Compression in SAP BI/BW (C13)

Data and index compression becomes more and more important with the increase of database sizes. There is not only the advantage of lower disc usage. As important is the positive effect of less I/O operations, thus the response times of user transactions and administrative tasks are lower.This session will explain the concepts of the new DB2 Index Compression feature and gives experiences made with DB2 Cobra during the beta test in a real customer environment.

Analyze the database (data and indexes) in terms of compression candidates (tools and approach)

Technique to compress indexes and release physical disc space
