Although many DBAs deploy real time monitoring to raise alerts of performance problems just before they occur, many do not make good use of historical performance data to help them understand how application performance changes over time. Creating a Performance Database to capture historical DB2 Trace data may enable DBAs to spot performance problems well in advance of issues occurring, as well as providing valuable additional context for any issues that do manifest themselves. This presentation will guide DBAs through the process of implementing a historical Performance Database, and illustrates the value it can bring to the performance management process by using several real-world examples.
