Objective 1: Introduction to the storage universe in the enterprise. Past, present and future trends.
Objective 2: NAS and SAN basics and how they are evolving and the effect on the data center and database systems. Emerging technologies; FCoE etc.
Objective 3: SSDs and flash storage, virtualization in the storage world, wide striping and VIOS
Objective 4: Concrete storage best practices for DB2 ESE - extent sizes, prefetch sizes, DB2_PARALLEL_IO and how to set these given your backend storage.
Objective 5: Concrete storage best practices for DB2 pureScale including GPFS.

Abstract:  Enterprise storage has undergone and continues to undergo substantial changes from locally attached disks to SAN and NAS and ever increasing forms of IO virtualization. In this session we will examine the different types of enterprise storage technologies that are prevalent and emerging and understand the best practices for their applicability to database I/O and storage in DB2. SAN, NAS, VIOS, thin provisioning, SSDs and flash storage - what do these all mean for your database storage paths, tablespace containers and transaction logs in DB2 and DB2 pureScale? Expect these and other questions to be answered. Expect to be prepared for the brave new world of I/O and storage!
