Objective 1: Understand industry direction driven by consumerization of IT and the impact on DB2 professionals
Objective 2: DB2 as the data back end for mobile devices
Objective 3: Learn technologies for stateless interaction with DB2 using RESTfull web services. What happens to security, persistence, context?
Objective 4: What comes after Java? Will relational be replaced by key/value pair stores with no transactional context?
Objective 5: Sneak peak (maybe more) of the technology for building applications without programming

Abstract:  iPhone, Android, Facebook, Twitter, Google ... they are changing the way we use technology as consumers. But this change is quickly permeating through the enterprise. This trend is called "consumerization of IT" and it is one of the most disruptive movements in our industry. Not only is it changing the way we use technology, it is also radically altering the way we build applications. Just as traditional Windows applications with an ODBC connection to the database have become all but extinct, the current browser-based applications with monolithic Java back end are at the peak of their maturity curve. The desktop and browser are being replaced by mobile devices based on Android and iOS. Statefull JDBC connectivity to the data is being replaced by stateless RESTfull web services. And the new nonSQL data stores are challenging 30 year dominance of the relational DBMS. Come to this session to get a view of where technology is heading and see how DB2 is transforming itself to stay in-step with the consumerization of the enterprise IT. See how you can create DB2 applications for the web and Android devices and take a look at technology that lets you create these applications without programming. Learn how to interact with DB2 using RESTfull web services from any device or browser.
