Audiences this presentation will apply to: Data Architects, Database Administrators, IT Managers
Objective 1: What types of cloud services are available and which might be most appropriate for you, and why - fully managed, hosted, or customized 'do-it-yourself'
Objective 2: The cloud isn't magic - it's just somebody else's datacenter, right? So what's so different from your current on-premise setup? We'll talk about a few important things you should know, such as infrastructure choices (will that be virtual or bare metal
Objective 3: Trial steps - using a hybrid cloud strategy to build experience in the cloud while maintaining a 'comfort level' within the on-premise datacenter
Objective 4: Performance within the cloud - can it keep up with your analytic or transactional demands? (Hint: yes, it most likely can!)
Objective 5: Proof points and sample deployments, showing just what's possible in the cloud. Pretty impressive stuff!

Abstract:  There's a huge wave of interest in cloud-based deployments, but what things should you consider when you're looking at moving your database out of your data center and into this cloud? In this presentation, we'll look at various factors in cloud deployment, to help you decide whether & how you want to move your analytics or transactional work to the cloud. Do you want fully managed or hosted, and what options are available for instant-on services? Or do you want the true customized, 'do-it-yourself' experience? Should you go 'fully cloud' or a hybrid of cloud and on-premise? What are performance and availability like in the cloud, and what things might keep you awake at night, compared to your current datacenter-centric world? Join us for a helpful hour of cloud topics, to help you decide - to Cloud, or not to Cloud?
