IBM Db2 12 Exploiting new functions & Migration Planning 

Db2 12 for z/OS® takes Db2 to a new level, both extending the core capabilities and empowering the future. Db2 12 extends the core with new enhancements to scalability, reliability, efficiency, security, and availability. Db2 12 also empowers the next wave of applications in the cloud, mobile, and analytics spaces. This two part "virtual workshop"  will cover major new Db2 12 functions as at Db2 12 GA. It will be particularly beneficial for clients that have already migrated to Db2 12 and those that are still planning to upgrade.

Workshop with Tanmay Bakshi: Db2 REST and Db2 Graph

The ecosystem around Db2 enables unique capabilities that you may not have yet had the chance to leverage. In this workshop, we’ll take a look at two newer offerings and what they enable you to do: Db2 REST, the easiest and most universal way to connect to and query a database, and Db2 Graph, the easiest and most powerful way to run graph queries against a relational database.

DevOps: Connecting the DBA and the App Developer

In this hands-on lab, we'll look at the latest technology to help application development and IT collaborate. We'll cover the DBA side of setting up teams, enforcing rules and setting space boundaries, as well as application discovery. The app dev side will be able to provision, make changes, submit and have them reviewed and approved for submission to the DBA.

Db2 DevOps Automation with Zowe CLI

Broadcom has delivered an exciting new ZOWE plugin in the realm of Db2 DevOps. The plugin provides a set of CLI commands for DB2 schema management as well as DB2 (test) data provisioning.The CLI will be a powerful tool to enable a developer to provision the Db2 environment needed to test an application. Of course the commands can also be easily integrated in a Jenkins pipeline for instance.

In this workshop you will have the opportunity for an instructor led hands on experience with the ZOWE DBM-DB2 plugin. You will lean how to set up the needed profile, how to use the available parameters.

To attend this workshop: Attendees shall use Google Chrome (Firefox should also work, however avoid using Safari or Edge).Having prior experience with VS Code is a plus, but not a requirement.

IBM - Db2 for z/OS REST for Hybrid Cloud Workshop

Db2 for z/OS is enabled for REST access!  Application developers who do not even know Db2 or SQL can invoke services composed of Db2 SQL statements or stored procedures and include these services in their applications via APIs or native REST access to Db2 for z/OS.  This workshop will explain how to discover, create and invoke Db2 REST services natively and how to create and invoke z/OS Connect RESTful APIs which in turn invoke Db2 REST services.

Objectives:

• Review significance of mobile and REST in the API economy
• Describe how to achieve REST access to Db2 data by invoking services based upon SQL statements or stored procedures including versioning
• Describe the use of an app to discover and create and expose REST services
• Describe the use of the BIND subcommand to create and expose Db2 REST services
• Explain how Db2 REST services can be included in RESTful APIs using z/OS Connect Enterprise Edition
