May eBulletin: A Welcome From the New IDUG President, Mark Labby

Dear IDUG Membership,

I am honored to serve you as President and look forward to the coming year. We are well underway in IDUG’s 25th anniversary year, a time to reflect on our past successes and look to the next 25 years of success. We would not be here without our dedicated members and volunteers, who I am proud to work with. Actually, not only do I work with IDUG volunteers, but I too am a volunteer. In my professional life, I have been working with DB2 for the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency for over 20 years. IDUG is an independent group run by DB2 professionals, for DB2 professionals.  Thank you for the opportunity to serve you and the DB2 community.

The IDUG DB2 Tech Conference in Orlando was a great success. We hosted DB2 professionals for five days of networking and technical content. We were also the first conference to highlight DB2 10.5 with BLU Acceleration. Thank you to Vijay Sitaram, Conference Planning Committee Chair, and his team for organizing a great event with a level of technical content that has become a standard for IDUG.

IDUG has some exciting initiatives coming up. We have two more events this year to celebrate 25 years of IDUG: The IDUG DB2 Tech Conference in Melbourne and the IDUG DB2 Tech Conference in Barcelona. In addition to our conferences, IDUG continues to bring you year-round benefits including the continuation of our thought leadership pieces each month. This month, Phil Nelson walks us through BLU Acceleration with “DB2 10.5 for LUW: Into the BLU … and Beyond.”  After you read Phil’s article, make sure to sign up for the next DB2 Tech Channel webcast “Deep Dive on BLU Acceleration in DB2 10.5, Super Analytics, Super Easy” for additional information on BLU Acceleration.

We also have IDUG volunteers working with DB2 11 for z/OS early support code to be ready to provide our members with a technical review when DB2 11 is released. I’d particularly like to thank Gerry Hodge of HLS Technology for his help in making this possible.

Thank you for your support and involvement with IDUG. I look forward to serving you as President over the next year!

Mark Labby
