Summer is upon us, and with it comes not only a change in the weather, but a change in IDUG leadership. I’m honored to take on the role of IDUG President, and hope I’m able to fill the shoes of Mark Labby in an adequate manner. Being the proud father of four, one could argue that you know what it takes to lead a crowd, but obviously when it comes to running a volunteer-based organization like IDUG, we are talking about a much larger crowd. Volunteers are the fuel that keeps IDUG going and I want to express a huge thank you to all of you! Despite having a busy presidential year ahead of me, I’ll still find time signaling “I’m OK” while enjoying Scuba Diving at the Red Sea.
I’m happy to take on this role at such an exciting time at IDUG. IDUG events are experiencing great success, as is membership. Just a few weeks ago, we wrapped up the IDUD DB2 Tech Conference in Phoenix. This event was a hit, providing robust technical content to more than 500 attendees from across the globe. If you attended the event, share your photos from Phoenix here. For me personally it made a great impression to watch Vladimir Bacvanski presenting just using SketchBook, drawing from a blank sheet as he intuitively took us through his Opening Keynote.
You can also get up-to-date on all things IDUG by visiting the newly created IDUG Flipboard. Flipboard is a great way to visually navigate through articles, event updates, news and other information, all in one place. It accomplishes this through providing the user with a virtual magazine experience, where you’re able to prioritize the content you want to see. If you’re already a Flipboard user, become a “reader” of the IDUG Flipboard.
Although we’re still wrapping up IDUG in Phoenix here at IDUG Headquarters, we’re already looking ahead to the upcoming IDUG DB2 Tech Conference in Prague, taking place November 9–14, 2014. I hope you’re planning to attend this event, not only for the outstanding education, but the amazing conference location as well!
