January 2012 President's Message

A belated happy new year to you all. I am very excited about the forthcoming year for IDUG.

We have three great conferences taking place in Denver, Colorado, USA, Sydney, Australia and Berlin, Germany. I know they delivered excellent education last year at great value, and this year will be no different. I would love to start telling you more about the upcoming IDUG DB2 Tech Conference in Denver, Colorado, USA; however, we have a great team of volunteers working on the event and I do not want to steal their thunder.

We will also deliver more education via other channels. We already have a wealth of presentations available on the IDUG Web site. If they are over a year old, they are available for free! As a Yorkshireman, I am known for being careful with my money, and to me, this represents incredible value. We are also working on increasing the back catalog as we get it tagged appropriately. IDUG know that standing still with the education does not work.  Our, newly formed Content Team will be driving the content (based on your requirements). This will not only include hour long sessions for conferences, but webcasts and maybe even 10 minute presentations on a specific relevant topic. IDUG always aims to deliver great content that meets your needs, and we will continue to do so. This does mean that it is important that we continue to hear your feedback about what is delivered and your requirements. I am always open to receiving feedback, as are the rest of the Board, so please let us know!

I would recommend attending the conferences if you can. Depending on your budget cycle, now is a great time to talk to management about this. Attending a conference isn't just about the fantastic sessions, it's also about building contacts in the industry, talking to fellow DB2 users who are facing the same challenges that you are and connecting with vendors who provide the latest technology solutions. You often only need one take back that can be used immediately to justify the cost. I know that I have found some take backs to be so important that I have had to call the office to make sure that I can get the message across before I return! This undoubtedly makes IDUG DB2 Tech Conferences THE events to get your technical DB2 training.

I trust that you will have a great year and I look forward to seeing you at one of the great IDUG Technical Conferences during the year.
