Although spring is in the air and the seasons are changing as usual, these are extraordinary times for everyone. Two months ago, IDUG was busy preparing for events in India as well as the North America conference in Dallas. Within a few short weeks, COVID-19 has fundamentally changed all the preparation IDUG was doing for the conferences. The health and welfare of our members and the extended community are our top priorities. Therefore, IDUG made the difficult but wise decision to cancel the events in India and North America. The IDUG Board is working on alternative plans for both. We are looking at all our options, including virtual conferences. While COVID-19 may have thrown a wrinkle into our conference plans, it has not made a dent on our volunteers’ passion for IDUG. The IDUG Board and the extended volunteer team are spending a significant amount of time working on all the possible alternatives. We will be rolling out plans in the next few weeks.
I do want to provide an update on the progress IDUG has made in the three focus areas: digital presence, community growth, and providing best-in-class technical education.
IDUG has started working with the website vendor on the re-platforming effort. IDUG volunteers are working with the vendor to finalize the conversion requirements to help ensure that our future platform will provide added value and is able to keep our members connected and engaged throughout the year.
While physical meetups are not possible due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions, IDUG is working on options to engage the RUGs and ways to help them continue to uphold the IDUG mission.
IDUG recently completed its effort on Db2 certification/proctored badges. While our original plan was to offer the certification at the conferences, we are now looking at options to provide these certifications online/virtually.
While these are unprecedented times, rest assured, the IDUG team is continuing to work on providing quality technical education to our members. We will continue to keep the membership updated on our conference plans. I hope to have more updates in my next newsletter. Until then, please stay safe and healthy.
Please feel free to drop me a line with any questions or suggestions. Until next time, I encourage you to go through idug.org and check out the valuable content. As always, I can be reached at email@example.com.
