Db2 12 has been available for over 2 years and many customers have migrated to Db2 12 Function level 500. Function Level (FL) 500 enables all the new Db2 12 base capability. However, changes are needed at the client, and potentially at the server, to exploit FL 501 and above.
Beginning with your migration to Db2 12 for z/OS, you will be embarking on a new journey called continuous delivery. This new way of delivering new features into IBM program products such as Db2 for z/OS will change the migration process and the way you deal with applications going forward.
This article series discuss the major Db2 temporal enhancements delivered in Db2 12 for z/OS and Db2 for z/OS Continuous Delivery (CD), e.g., temporal logical transaction, temporal RI, and replication and temporal query enhancements on temporal auditing.
In Part 2, we will examine how to exploit Application Compatibility (APPLCOMPAT) which was introduced in DB2 11, and Function Levels which is introduced in DB2 12 to safely manage change. The levels of APPLCOMAT you can specify is limited by the Function Level of your system.
This two-part article will introduce Continuous Delivery, the problems with traditional delivery and how Continuous Delivery helps address those problems in Part One. In Part Two, we will delve deeper into the mechanisms of DB2 12 Continuous Delivery.
