Attendance Exceeds Expectations at the IDUG DB2 Tech Conference in Denver, Colorado
The IDUG DB2 Tech Conference in Denver, Colorado was a great success attracting nearly 600 attendees, an 11% increase from last year. The brightest minds in DB2 shared innovations, best practices and creative technical solutions as IDUG attendees took full advantage of a week of valuable technical training. The new release of DB2 10 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows was featured in a dedicated track and highlighted during the special interest group meetings on Wednesday and Thursday evening. The DB2 LUW crowd participated in a lively panel discussion as the conference planning committee brought the mini-panel back to center stage.
IDUG experienced a record number of first time attendees in Denver, including ten college students from local universities taking advantage of IDUG’s college initiative. The numbers of first time attendees also drove a great deal of dialog during the technical sessions. The DB2 for z/OS attendees learned about the vNext release and honed their skills on the current release, DB2 10 for z/OS. The IDUG DB2 Tech Conference offered extensive daily opportunities to learn, network and grow. The educational seminars and IBM certification exams were very popular.
DB2 content was the high point of the week featuring 117 technical sessions, 12 vendor sponsored presentations and 11 technical networking opportunities in both the classic formats (speed SIG, SIG, mini-panel) as well as a new format (6 in 60 minutes) of which attendees and presenters raved about. Friday concluded with a special DB2 10 for z/OS Migration Planning Workshop. Each evening, networking occurred in the Exhibit Hall and continued in downtown Denver, with three consecutive days of customer networking events by DBI & HLS Technologies, CA Technologies and IBM.
To kick off the week, IDUG Conference Chair Rob Crane welcomed everyone to the mile high city, Denver, Colorado. The Conference Planning Committee, whose hard work and creativity made the week so successful, was highlighted with a video showcasing each member.
Keynote speakers Curt Cotner, Judy Huber and Anjul Bhambhri took the stage where they showcased DB2, Big Data and the Future. Curt Cotner, IBM Fellow and VP/CTO for IBM Data Management, shared IBM’s strategic direction in the Data Server space, enlightening the crowd about the future of DB2 and IBM's commitment to making your business grow with deeper utilization of the DB2 family of products. Judy Huber, IBM Vice President Distributed Data Servers and Data Warehousing, gave a deep dive into the latest features that launched with DB2 10 for Linux, UNIX, Windows and mentioned several market factors that drove the content released in DB2 10.
