SPEAKERS: Judy Ruby-Brown (IBM)
DB2 for z/OS users are running out of virtual storage in the DBM1 address space, in many cases causing DB2 to fail. The usual reason is over specification of threads, simply because you didn't know WHAT to enter for DSNZPARM CTHREAD/MAXDBAT. Guess no more! For the price of a free download of John Campbell's MEMU2 package, you can answer the question: How many threads can this DB2 support? This presentation teaches you to analyze the output of MEMU2. Step by step instructions are provided for development of the spreadsheet and charts you will use. Real life samples the speaker has experienced in her analyses are also discussed. This presentation is for you, whether you are data sharing or not. if you are on DB2 V8 or 9.
EXP. LEVEL: Intermediate
The entire objective is to teach the attendee to perform this analysis for himself/herself. The result of MEMU2 has been shown before by experts, but not the details. This presentation is "MEMU2 for the rest of us". What is MEMU2, and how can I get it?
Using MEMU2 output to determine safe number of threads
Step by step instructions for creating the spreadsheet and chart / formulae
Several real life examples and what you can learn from them
