This is a back to basics presentation. It describes the architecture of the 3 basic join methods in DB2 namely, the Nested Loop Join, The Merge Scan Join and the Hash Join. How do these joins really work and when are they most likely to be used. This presentation also covers star joins, a specialized higher level methodology for suitable star schema queries. In addition, we look at optimization strategies with choosing how tables are joined. Join processing in a database partitioned feature (DPF) environment is another important aspect that is covered. The objective of this presentation is to familiarize you with how joins are handled in DB2 and better equip you with knowledge that may help you improve query performance
