The DIAGNOSE utility is one of the most unknown of all the DB2 utilities available in IBM's suite. It serves a specialized function and yet a very valuable one. It not only helps database administrators and system programmers to control their environment but provides valuable information back to IBM DB2 Level 2 and development support. This presentation will touch on some of the available parameters in DB2 z/OS V10 as well as provide some valuable insight into one of the more obscure keywords, TYPE. DIAGNOSE TYPE is primarily requested by DB2 support to provide diagnostic output and/or a feature exploitation in support of problem determination or to help the customer in a work around situation. We will discuss some of the more pervasive ones and how to best use them in your own environment in an as needed basis.
