DBAs know that performance tuning requires understanding many aspects of DB2. Luckily, there is one key to unlock the knowledge needed. If you really understand how DB2 finds the data from a single table, the rest (access paths, stats, indexes, sql coding, reorgs, filter factors, Explain, joins, subqueries) follow along. We will take a walk with DB2 through tables and indexes to see what DB2 is doing. We will examine all that other information and see how it relates and what makes a good or bad access path.
EXP. LEVEL: Beginner,Intermediate,Advanced
Learn how DB2 traverses an index and tablespace
Learn the performance characteristics of each type of access path
Learn the effect of clustered and unclustered indexes
Understand getpages and I/Os and how they impact performance
Learn how statistics, filter factors and predicates effect the choice of access path
