This is a geek level crawl through the DB2 Log looking primarily at DSN1LOGP output and mapping the content, significance, and relationship between records in the DB2 Log.This presentation is targeted to individuals that may need to use the log some day to resolve a problem or recover data and knowledge of log record content and format will be paramount.

Learn about DB2 for z/OS logging resources and physical format.

Explore the varous DB2 log record headers and understand which are present in a log record and when.

Map Unit of Recovery records, content contained and see how DM (insert/update/delete) activity is coorelated to Units of Recovery.

Gain an understanding of various DM record header and appendages that describe different formats for insert, deletes and updates and how actual user data appears in the log.

See the BITs in the DB2 log that indicate the nature of data... e.g. compressed, caused by RI or Trigger, a versioned row (to name a few).
