The different types of large objects are discussed. Including varchar, char, text/byte and clob/blob. The clob/blob type differs from the other large objects. Recommendations on which ones to use for differenct situations are provided. The characteristics of these objects are discussed from the perspective of logging, recovery, update and retrieval speed, random access and the number of objects you can open concurrently.
