Demand for 24x7 is absolute, so we don't have batch window anymore. Every cpu-second costs money. But need for good batch jobs are still there. We must reinvent good, old process-oriented programming. Pohjola's new car-insurance system's batch processes will be implemented with some new and some old ideas.
EXP. LEVEL: Intermediate
No more batch window, but batch is still needeed.
Online & batch MUST tolerate each other.
Normal DB2 based locking cannot be used.
Geting data out of database must be efficient.
Updating database is a challenge, but can be done.
