Adding just a few tricks to your SQL repertoire can save a tremendous amount of time in administering and maintaining your DB2 databases. Advanced SQL techniques aren't just for developers; by combining these patterns with a solid understanding of the system catalog, DBAs can generate sophisticated sets of XML, SQL, DDL, and even programming/scripting code for other languages. Although vendor tools can generate certain types of useful data and code, DBAs also receive many "one-off" requests that may appear to require a lot of hand typing, but are actually well-suited for SQL automation. This session will introduce DBAs to powerful SQL techniques that generate data and code with minimal effort, leading to time saved and fewer errors. The examples provided come from the real-world experiences of a battle-hardened DBA.
