Topic: Cross Platform DB2 for z/OS & LUW
Many DBAs today have to manage DB2 running on multiple platforms. Proper monitoring and tuning of these environments is a complex time-consuming task. Obtaining optimal performance from your DB2 applications is a multi-faceted exercise. DB2 performance optimization cannot be limited to simply tuning SQL. You need to have an understanding of how factors such as memory, physical design, and maintenance can affect performance. The concept of autonomic or “self-tuning” databases was originally introduced with DB2 LUW V8. Now with the release of DB2 for z/OS V10 autonomics are becoming available on z/OS as well. This presentation will compare the architectures of DB2 z/OS and LUW, and show you what to monitor and how to identify the most common areas of performance bottlenecks. It will then dive into the concept of autonomics and how this new automation can greatly reduce the tuning efforts required by DBA’s.
