Inactive data costs real money. It affects DB2 performance and recovery speed. Archiving data is an effective method of reducing the datafootprint, while preserving the data of later use if needed. Historical data is also needed for regulatory Compliance and auditing. Thispresentation provides an overview of archiving for DB2. It explains the trade-offs and advantages of different alternatives. Schema and application archiving are shown and contrasted. This material is designed to help boththe novice and expert database administrators.
