Applications running on small devices with no network connectivity often require permanent data storage, but are not able to use a traditional RDBMS. Developers sometimes resort to primitive "flat-file" storage, but this is error-prone, difficult to implement, and lacks features such as transaction processing and indexing. A better solution is to use a small-footprint RDBMS. IBM offers two: Cloudscape and DB2 Everyplace. This presentation includes a technical overview of both products, and compares and contrasts their features. Finally, some practical advice is provided to help developers decide which of these to use for a given application
