Topic: DB2 for z/OS
This session will focus on the Vantiv user experience with regards to DB2 for z/OS, problem determination and performance tuning. During the peak season, there was an incident where the DB2 subsystems executed 20 times more dynamic queries than normal, flooding the system and maxing out storage. Through creative use of tooling, Vantiv was able to determine the source of the problem and restore the system to normal operation while under a peak freeze. Vantiv will also discuss how they use reporting to monitor DB2, performance, and structures while improving the throughput during peak hours and reducing the rolling four hour average. Attendees will be able to learn how to deal with the unexpected and the routine to help keep DB2 subsystem performance healthy and optimized.
Attendees will learn:
• How to supplement DB2 operations and facilitate problem diagnosis for items such as dynamic cache sizing, buffer pool and GBP monitoring and tuning
• How to monitor storage to avoid performance issues and assist with capacity planning
• Understand the complexities of real and auxiliary storage and how to effectively manage in your environment
