Topic: DB2 for z/OS
DATE: 2008-5-19 (11:00 AM - 12:00 PM)
SPEAKERS: Kenneth Ernstein (CSC - eMedNY)
In today's competative world high availablity is nearly required and continuous availability is desired, but acheiving that last step is challenging for most companies to acheive. Standard practices and achitectures can not be simply scaled upward to achieve the goal. The eMedNY application has acheived continuous availability through the use of creative design techniques and DB2 on the z/OS platform. This presentation will cover DB2 Subsystem, Database, Tablespace, Table and Index designs the eMedNY team used to achieve a 99.999% system availability since November 2002.
EXP. LEVEL: Intermediate,Advanced
The attendee will understand the importance of a logical database design and the impacts it should have on the physicalization process
The attendee will understand the benefits and issues of range partitioning data structures. They will also understand the benefits these ranged partitions can provide during reorg of a continuously available table
The attendee will understand the importance of properly designing an Non Partitioned Index on a large data structure and the impacts that index can have on continuous availability.
The attendee will learn at least one method of implementing code to support a change in data structures without taking an application outage.
The attendee techniques to think outside 'normal' constraints to solve the problems Continuous Availability places on system and application design.
