The integration of XML in DB2 for z/OS V9 is often called the revenge of IMS. There is some truth in this because XML is a hierarchical structure, which is now integrated into the relational model. A few questions are brought up with this, like-How do we access the data in XML structures?-What about indexing to improve performance?-Are there recommendations for database design?In this presentation, I will highlight first experiences with XML integration in DB2 for z/OS. Additionally, I will provide hints and tips on how to improve performance. Last but not least, I will show you why you should recall your old hierarchical "thinking modes" to survive in the new fashionable XML world.
