Functionality is an important part of the database engine and is key to fast application development, flexibility, and performance. DB2 offers a number of highly advanced SQL features that enable extreme functionality with minimal coding. In addition, placing data intensive code within the database engine can save shipping large quantities of data across servers, and also allow application functionality to be centralized. This presentation will explain advanced SQL features such as common table expressions, recursion, OLAP functionality, joins and anti-joins, nested table expressions, and user-defined functions. Each feature will be explained in regards to functionality, but also presented in a manner in which an application to real world situations becomes obvious.
