DB2 11 for z/OS again raises the bar in key areas for high-end packaged applications like SAP. Besides performance boosts for various workloads, it optimizes the network latency for remote applications that run on AIX, Linux or Windows. Together with DB2 Connect 10.5, it provides a whole new set of seamless data sharing options that aim at optimizing both high availability and performance. In the area of DB2 utilities, there are significant enhancements in REORG that are targeted to allow high volume business applications to non-disruptively complete. Also, DB2 11 improves the system-level backup and recovery solution, which is based on the BACKUP SYSTEM and RESTORE SYSTEM utilities. This is particularly helpful for packaged applications. In addition, the new database version provides capabilities for the federated system-cloning of independent DB2 subsystems that are unmatched by other offerings.
