Topic: 2014 EMEA
Subtopic: DB2 for z/OS
DB2 10.5 provides a number of new features to extend DB2 capability and provide improved performance. Leading the list is BLU Acceleration, which provides compressed column-organized tables for DB2 databases, and includes broad support for data mart (analytic) workloads having complex queries that are commonly characterized by multi-table joins, grouping and aggregation, and table scans over a star schema. DB2 10.5 also provides expression-based indexes, the ability to exclude NULL keys from indexes, support for tables with large rows and randomized key indexes. This presentation will discuss how the optimizer has been updated to support these new features and how you can recognize their affect on the query access plan by using the explain facility.
