If you create indexes to speed up queries, this session will show how to improve your query performance even more. It takes a deep dive into the Jump Scan feature available from DB2 v10.1 and explains how indexes are now utilized for a new class of queries that contain gaps. It also explains what Jump Scan can and cannot do. Finally, through an example, it addresses a misconception about logical index I/Os introduced by Jump Scan’s index probes. This example illustrates that Jump Scan reduces both physical index I/Os and query execution time because local index I/Os’ code path is highly optimized for Jump Scan, and their performance impact is typically much smaller than physical index I/Os.
