The storage environment used by DB2 Mainframe databases has morphed since the beginnings of DB2. To add to the complexity of DB2’s
evolution, the storage has grown and evolved as well. Each storage vendor uses their own terminology to describe their features. It becomes
confusing trying to reconcile storage features exploited by DB2’s and ISV’s utilities with the features provided by the storage vendor. This
presentation will explain the various technologies used by the different storage vendors as well as the terminology they use. It will also relate the
different storage technologies to the hardware functions the various DB2 for z/OS utilities exploit.
