Planned events such as version upgrades, reorgs, and schema changes can be a large source of downtime. This presentation describes the key best practices DB2 LUW DBAs can use to minimize and, in fact, eliminate planned outages. Topics covered include :
- table maintenance and reorganization
- tablespace maintenance
- data load/ingest
- logging, backup and recovery
- fixpack updates and version upgrades
- configuration
- schema change
- avoiding perceived outages associated wtih locking/concurrency
In each area, the best practices DBAs should know will be described, including those that take advantage of features in the latest release. In addition, where appropriate, the fundamental underlying DB2 technology will also be described. This will give the audience a deeper appreciation for the rationale behind the best practice.
