Topic: 2015 EMEA
Subtopic: DB2 for z/OS
Large transactional workloads continue to grow in scale for many customers. One of the reasons often are more mobile users that directly access the backend systems. At the same time, analytical queries are performed directly on the operational data. This may lead to transactional and analytical workloads and applications to be merged. This session discusses new capabilities on DB2 11 and z13 that benefit such workloads including DB2 optimizer enhancements, the role of user-defined functions and large memory. Examples from SAP's new strategic database interface Core-Data Services (CDS) are explained that allows applications to push down application functionality to do processing close to the data and to minimize data movements.
