The DDF in a Nutshell (B01)

Topic: 2010 EMEA

Subtopic: DB2 for z/OS

DATE: 2010-11-8 (11:30 - 12:30)
SPEAKERS: William Arledge (BMC Software, Inc.)

This presentation provides technical detail on the Distributed Data Facility, the DB2 on z/OS technology that supports distributed access from and to DB2 on z/OS. Topics include DDF implementation, including DSNZPARM parameters, address space architecture and the Communications Database (SYSDDF). Distributed workloads will be discussed, including WLM considerations, DBAT priorization, and accounting consideratiions. We'll also discuss performance monitoring and tuning considerations for distributed workloads.

EXP. LEVEL: Intermediate

Overall DB2 on z/OS architecture and how the DDF (Distributed Data Facility) fits in the overall scheme

DDF implemantation considerations, including recommended DSNZPARMs for DDF, Communications database structure/contents, and authorization considerations

Distributed SQL workflow information, including distributed connections, database access thread (DBAT) considerations, thread reuse and bind considerations.

Workload Manager (WLM) role in DDF implementation, including the relationship between a thread and enclave (will be introduced). We also discuss service classes and the use of DBAT identifiers to prioritize DDF workloads.

DDF and DBAT performance monitoring considerations including distirbuted statistics and accounting metrics to review and recommendations for performance improvements.
