At the 25'th anniversary of DB2 IBM made a contest in different categories where a judging panel would try to find the best solution submitted. In the categori of DB2 for z/OS Bankdata won the award with a solution used for monitoring components and applications on different hardware platform in a genercic way. The award was presented at the IOD 2008 conference in Las Vegas in October 2008 and the solution will be presented here.In this presentation we will try to walk through this solution and let it serve as inspiration to the attendies. We will try to cover the DB2 specific technologies used and the components involved, but will also try to put a lot of focus onto the business related issues, for instance how this system is used in the daily flow inside Bankdata. We have a strong feeling that there is a uncovered aspect in most installations concerning the need of monitoring applications and special cases. This solution aims directly towards this need in its generic way.
EXP. LEVEL: Beginner,Intermediate
Make the audience understand the need of being able to monitor applications and specific situations in an easy , yet reliable way.
Make the audience understand the DB2 related implementation in the award winning solution.
Make the audience understand the role of all the other building bricks used like MQ, .Net, Java etc.
Try to state that we, even though technical experts, have overlooked DB2 for z/OS' capabilities that could be used in buildin a powerful solution like this very easily.
Show a lot of real examples of the way this implementaion has been used at Bankdata with big success !
