DB2 Version 8 introduced the BACKUP SYSTEM and RESTORE SYSTEM utilities that enable you to backup and to recover the DB2 environment using volume level backups. DB2 9 further enhanced these utilities through the introduction of incremental FlashCopy support, object level recovery using the volume level dumps and DFSMShsm tape management for offloading the backups to tape. This presentation will not only introduce you to the basics of the BACKUP SYSTEM and RESTORE SYSTEM utilities but will also cover the new DB2 9 enhancements. This presentation contains many colorful pictures that will help you to understand the new constructs and to help you correctly setup the environment. Along the way you will learn about copy pools, copy pool backup storage groups, RBLPs and SYSPITRs. If you are responsible for DB2 backup and recovery you will definitely want to take a look at the new DB2 9 BACKUP SYSTEM and RESTORE SYSTEM utilities.
