If you would like to improve query performance, it often helps to understand the internals of the optimizer. Ever wondered how we handle optimization in a shared nothing environment (using DPF the database partitioning feature) ? ... or when one has intra-partition parallelism turned on ? ... or how the optimizer handles parallelism in a federated environment using Websphere II ?
EXP. LEVEL: Intermediate
There is some level of frustration when users do not understand how the optimizer works and they have a performance problem. The main objective is to create an understanding of the optimizer so that users do not have to treat it as a black box.
Describe how the optimizer handles parallelism in a DPF (database Partitioning Feature) environment
Describe how the optimizer handles parallelism with intra-query parallelism turned on (using SMP - Symmetric Multi processor systems)
Describes how the optimizer handles parallelism in a federated environment
Make query peformance problem determination easier.
