Traditional db2 applications on a mainframe coming through an IMS or CICS monitor are usually running with static, well-tuned and controlled sql-statements.However, these old applications will more and more be replaced by java technology with tools and techniques (JDO, EJB) to implement mapping between relational data model and Java object model. This technique leads to tons of dynamic sql statements, which are often built immediately before their execution. Depending on the performance implementation, monitoring and summarizing of these sql statements can't often be done with available monitoring tools. Therefore, this presentation explains common problems, points out requirements for a analyze tool and demonstrates the analyze process on DB2 z/OS. Samples and experiences of common detected performance problems are included. The presentation also refers to some important DB2 installation parms for DDF communication.
