The New York State Medicaid system had 1 hour to migrate its pharmacy claim database to a new claim database without financial penalty. During this same migration window, the old system had to be operational for eligibility verification. With no budget for Third Party Tools, the Data Architecture team devised a strategy to fully migrate the data to the new system, while keeping the old system active. The data and processing conversion was accomplished with a total 7 min pause in application processing and full data availability for eligibility verification. This presentation will cover the design requirements, the actual design, the implentation planning and the design usage beyond the initial conversion to ensure continuous data availability in a 24x7x365 environment.
