The 2011 IDUG DB2 Tech Conference in Prague Receives Rave Reviews for Top-Notch Technical Education
The 2011 IDUG conference brought together nearly 450 attendees to Prague, Czech Republic, 13-18 November for a week of education, networking and innovations. The cold Prague weather did not keep conference-goers from enjoying this year’s event, which featured 15 exhibitors, over 100 hours of supreme technical education, and opportunities to interact with industry leaders from around the world.
Complimentary DB2 Education Enabled Attendees to Advance Their Careers
In partnership with IBM, IDUG offered complimentary Pre-certification seminars for DB2 10 for z/OS and DB2 9.7 for LUW (Advanced). Over 90 attendees attended these sessions to prepare for the IBM certification classes which were available throughout the rest of the conference week. Additionally, IBM offered a complimentary DB2 10 for z/OS Migration Planning Workshop and 30 attendees took advantage of this great opportunity and have started planning their DB2 10 Migration Strategy!
Additionally, Sunday included a free CA Technologies DB2 User Day experience. During this time, CA experts provided updates on mainframe trends, the latest developments in CA Database Management, a look into the future of CA products and insight into how companies have solved real problems with CA Technologies solutions for DB2.
IBM presenters Curt Cotner and Namik Hrle kicked off the Monday events with their keynote presentation titled “Trends and Directions in Database Technology.” Curt Cotner is an IBM Fellow and VP/CTO for IBM's relational database server products, and Namik Hrle is IBM Distinguished Engineer and works in the IBM Boeblingen Laboratory.
Addressing the numerous new database technologies that have been introduced in recent years, such as in-memory data stores, graph stores, column stores, name/value stores and more, they produced though-provoking ideas for the future of technology as well as the work that is being done within IBM to continue the evolution of DB2 to address these new technology and business needs.

The expert panel consisted of:
- John Campbell – IBM Corporation
- Scott Hayes – DBI

- Dave Beulke – Dave Beulke and Associates
