Speaker Bio:

Michael is a IBM senior Software Engineer and Db2 Consulting Specialist based in Germany, working for IBM Db2 z/OS development (Silicon Valley Laboratory). He has over 25+ years of experience working with Db2 z/OS. Before joining IBM in 2001, he worked for large banking IT providers. He is experienced in Db2, IMS and z/OS system programming, client/server, parallel sysplex, Db2 data sharing implementations, subsystem environments like, CICS, IMS and others. Always aiming for high availability and continuous availability setups with focus on performance. He also is a co-author of IBM Db2 Redbooks and White papers and experienced presenter at IDUG and Db2 Technical Conferences in the past. Since 2004 he works as a member of the Db2 z/OS Development SWAT team supporting and advocating customers across various industries and geographies.

Gareth has many years of Systems Programming and DBA experience on the MVS (OS/390, z/OS) platform, and over 30 years with Db2.  He has worked with many customers around the world to help them succeed in their use of Db2. In 2007 he joined the Db2 for z/OS Development SWAT Team at IBM, to work on customer critical situations, perform Db2 360 Continuous Availability Assessment Studies, provide consultancy to Business Partners and customers. He is a past presenter at IDUG and many Db2 Technical Conferences. His main skills include Db2 for z/OS, Systems Programming, Rexx Programming, Database Administration and SQL.

Learn how to identify and resolve database hangs, crashes, performance problems, and data corruption issues. Get familiar with diagnostic tools. Learn how and when to use these troubleshooting tools for a quick problem resolution. Topics covered: Performance; FODC; Hangs; Latching; Crashes/Traps; Data Corruption. Attendees will be able to characterize a problem in order to expedite resolution, learn how and what data to collect during intermittent hangs, slow-downs, and other frequent problems, and understand Db2 Support's methodology in troubleshooting Db2 and even non-Db2 hiccups. The seminar contains live demos during which the audience will be given an opportunity to perform an interactive investigation of selected problems.

Abstract:

IBM Db2 AI for z/OS ("Db2ZAI") empowers the optimizer in Db2 for z/OS engine to determine the best performing query access paths, based on customer's workload characteristics. In addition, Db2ZAI detects Db2 system performance exceptions and provides the recommended actions for tuning which are based on customer's system environment.

Objective:

The objective of the  Db2 AI for z/OS hands-on lab is to introduce the Db2 AI for z/OS solution to all IT professionals.

What Delegates will learn ?

The delegates will learn how to use Db2 AI for z/OS via its user interface. They will run simple SQL statements against a sample query test workload in order to experience the model training process, execute SQL statements using access paths based on machine learning models, and view their SQL statement performance results. In addition, the delegates will learn how to navigate the Db2 AI for z/OS system health assessment feature using pre-loaded data, and view the samples of system health assessment exceptions and recommended actions.

Martin is a IBM Db2 AI for z/OS Advisory Software Engineer at IBM. Worked with IBM senior technical staff and senior developers to design a machine learning product for IBM Db2 Query Optimizer for z/OS. In a 4 month timeframe, took a lead user interface role and led a small team to successfully deployed the Db2ZAI user interface to enable machine learning in Db2 for z/OS.
