IDUG Celebrates 25 Years and 30 Years of IBM DB2 in Orlando

The IDUG DB2 Tech Conference in Orlando, Florida was a great success, attracting more than 500 DB2 professionals. The brightest minds in DB2 celebrated IDUG’s 25th anniversary and IBM DB2’s 30th Birthday as well as shared innovations, best practices and creative technical solutions as attendees took full advantage of a week of valuable user-focused technical training.

The IDUG DB2 Tech Conference in Orlando was the world’s first conference to feature in-depth sessions about DB2 10.5 with BLU Acceleration. Attendees experienced technical sessions and hands-on immersion workshops to learn about the new technology and stay ahead of the curve. Big Data continues to be hot topic at IDUG, with attendees flocking to Big Data sessions that were led by thought leaders like Bob Picciano and Curt Cotner.

With over 140 hours of technical content, two complimentary workshops, seven One-Day Education Seminars, nine Vendor Sponsored Presentations and two great keynotes, the IDUG DB2 Tech Conference offered a deep-dive into today’s most pressing DB2 issues. More than 45 IBM sessions were led on timely topics such as Big Data Solutions, BLU Acceleration, PureData and DB2 for z/OS. At the close of each day, attendees networked in the Exhibit Hall with their peers and solution providers.

Keynote Highlight

To kick off the week, IDUG Conference Chair, Vijay Sitram, welcomed everyone to Orlando, Florida. Vijay thanked the Conference Planning Committee, whose hard work and dedication made the event such a success. Tuesday’s keynote speaker Bob Picciano took the stage to discuss “DB2: Database Software for the Era of Big Data.” He shared insights on how DB2 will power the next generation of solutions, applications and systems, and how data-driven organizations are propelling growth and innovation today.

Wednesday’s keynote started with a goodbye – Curt Cotner of IBM announced his retirement after 35 years of service to IBM. While taking the IDUG stage for the last time, Cotner shared his insights on “The Latest News on DB2 Application Development Technology.” The session went into detail on the new NoSQL JSON datastore and the new Node.js. Thanks to Curt for many years of service as an IDUG speaker and supporter.
