Summary: Designs, implements, maintains, optimizes, and controls the organization's physical database structures, to ensure secure and timely data access balanced with data integrity and recoverability. Develops and implements database technology to be used by business application, and business intelligence systems to add value to the business. Implements database modifications requested through mandated channels. Works with Data Administration and systems analysts to translate logical data models into physical database models. Creates and documents physical models, then schedules and conducts physical design reviews, incorporating feedback into the model as required. Devises written procedures, automated scripts, JCL, software tools, reports and other means to monitor and facilitate database tuning, data integrity, data security, database recovery, resource usage, history retention and other activities that are central to a robust database environment. Establishes and enforces standards for use of the corporate database.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. 1. Analyzes database modifications to access impact on total environment before implementation.
2. 2. Helps to develop and document standards for use, control, updating, and maintenance of databases.
3. 3. Consults with Data Administration, systems analysts and business users to obtain contextual information related to new or existing data files.
4. 4. Establishes, maintains and migrates databases used for development, testing, quality assurance, and production.
5. 5. Assists Data Administration with maintenance of logical data models and other logical artifacts.
6. 6. Helps to develop automated and procedural means to enforce security, enhance recoverability, optimize performance and reinforce other characteristics associated with a healthy database environment.
7. 7. Fulfill administrative reporting requirements.
8. 8. Proactively analyzes database performance via DBMS, third-party, or in-house tools to optimize database performance where indicated.
9. 9. Helps to develop training materials on the organization's databases.
10. 10. Participates in software selection process, including but not limited to, selection of Database Management Systems, third-party backup/recovery software, monitoring/tuning packages, data repositories and database reporting tools.
11. 11. Participates in hardware selection process, including but not limited to, selection of CPU, DASD, and database Servers.
12. 12. Assists with the design, construction, and optimization of systems architecture with database connectivity, and other Internet technologies.
13. 13. Assist in Systems Testing and implementation as needed.
14. 14. Provides support for testing, implementation and maintenance of essential DBMS utilities, and new releases of DBMS software and fixes.
15. 15. Provides technical database support for distributed databases and business intelligence systems.
16. 16. Maintain a customer service-oriented work approach towards internal and external customers.

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Bachelor's degree in computer science or Business Administration or equivalent. Training in file structures and design, information retrieval techniques, file access methods and control, and development and documentation of standards. Four years' work experience of which two years have been in data processing. One year of data processing experience must have been in systems analysis and design using relational database technology. Additional experiences using DB2, or SQL Server are a plus. Familiarity with Java, J2EE, EJBs, .Net, and application servers such as WebSphere, Internet technologies, and DB2 or SQL Server support products are pluses. Additional non-data processing experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

Language Ability:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as financial and legal documents, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals in English.

Math Ability:
Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as applying mathematical operations to such tasks as investment performance calculations and probability statistics.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only
limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should be to a high degree PC proficient and possess intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS Windows operating system, MS Word, MS Excel, Internet, and MS Outlook.
