z/OS Data - Strategies to Extend Your Investment

Wednesday, March 30, 2006

12:00 noon EST

The Internal DB2 Users Group (IDUG) is pleased to partner with The
Fillmore Group to deliver a free Webcast with presenter John
Schatko, Senior Consultant at The Fillmore Group, as he explains
how the use of tools like CICS VSAM Transparency and Information
Integrator Classic Federation are used to open non-relational data
to the enterprise, extending the value of legacy transaction
processing systems. This live webcast will run approximately 90
minutes and participants will have the opportunity to pose questions
to the presenter. Capacity is limited so register early.

What is Data Federation?

Mountains of data remain locked in IMS and VSAM on z/OS. In this
session, attendees will be introduced to two tools that enable
access to this data without costly and time-consuming database
migration and application re-development. Seminar attendees will
learn how to:

Migrate VSAM data to DB2 on z/OS without re-writing
Access IMS and VSAM data in place using the SQL API from
Linux and Windows programs

You will see how alternative technologies like CICS VSAM
Transparency (VT) and Information Integrator Classic Federation
(IICF) open up non-relational data to the enterprise for web-enabled
application development and data warehousing.

John Schatko is a Senior Consultant with The Fillmore Group, an IBM
Business Partner that has been providing DB2 systems
integration, consulting, and training services for over 19 years.
John has 17 years of DB2 DBA experience working on both mainframe
(MVS and z/OS) and LUW platforms. John has worked on
multi-region-hundreds-of-user OLTP applications as well as
billion-row data warehouses. He has been engaged on products
ranging from CICS VSAM Transparency for z/OS to DB2 Data Sharing and
his responsibilities have included data center operations
technician, programmer, DB2 DBA team leader and multi-site,
multi-project DBA coordinator.
