Agenda for June 16th, 2009
8:45 - 9:00 Welcome

9:00 - 10:15 Enterprise Encryption 101
Presenter: Phil Smith, Voltage Security

We've all seen the seemingly weekly news about yet another data breach: millions of credit card numbers, SSNs, or other personal information exposed. Encryption is the technology that minimizes the cost of such data breaches, by making the "leaked" data useless to the thief. More and more sites are investigating encryption, some even before a breach occurs. But where do you start with this technology? How do you make a sensible choice among dozens of vendors, between hardware and software? Where and when do you encrypt data, and is that sufficient? What about emerging standards and legislation, such as PCI DSS, Red Flag, GLBA, SB1386, Directive 95/46/EC, et al.?

Come hear about a implementing encryption from a business perspective - what you need to worry about and how to approach it. This is not a comparison of encryption technologies per se, but rather a look at the issues surrounding them.

10:15 - 10:30 Break

10:30 - 11:45 DB2 JAVA Performance with pureQuery and Data Studio
Presenter: David Beulke, Pragmatic Solutions, Inc.

In this presentation the many advantages of pureQuery and Data Studio will be discussed and demonstrated. Generating inLine statements, JAVA methods, object relational mapping or named queries through Data Studio offers the JAVA architect and programmer the flexibility to match their coding style with the application requirements. Data Studio and pureQuery offers the ability to code your JAVA database access in many different fashions to match whatever application requirements are necessary.

pureQuery also has the capability to statically bind JAVA SQL applications. With static SQL JAVA applications, security, debugging capabilities and performance are tremendously enhanced. Static JAVA applications reduce object verification, security checks, authorization and locks in access paths for improved performance. Through this presentation you can learn how to speed up your JAVA application development and its overall performance through this pureQuery and Data Studio presentation.

11:45 - 12:30 Lunch - TBD

12:30 - 1:45 Improve Performance with DB2 Version 9 for z/OS
Presenter: David Beulke, Pragmatic Solutions, Inc.

The Improve Performance with DB2 Version 9 for z/OS presentation is all about getting the most out of the new version of DB2. This presentation is designed to highlight all the new performance parameters and technical features and exploiting them on the first day of your V9 implementation. This presentation highlights the new features, along with all the current features, functions and techniques that impact your system and application performance.

This presentation also briefly discusses the new and existing architectural, database and application performance aspects along with tuning considerations so you can dramatically reduce your CPU and I/O costs. This presentation will discuss potential problem areas and the improvements that can be made in system configurations, database designs within batch, online and JAVA applications. You will learn the vital activities to prepare and the best techniques to tune up the performance and fully exploit your DB2 z/OS Version 9 environments.
