DB2 11 Migration-zparm parameters

HelloI have a question for DB2 11 migration.Currently in DB2 10 we have below parameters in zparmBIF_COMPATIBILITY=V9_DECIMAL_VARCHAR,DDF_COMPATIBILITY=(DISABLE_IMPCAST_NJV)
I am wondering to know ,is there any way to keep these parameters as is and use V11R1.?Because I saw in the DB2  books that DB2 use
DISABLE_IMPCAST_NJV only in V10R1.

My second question is ,staying with V10R1 would be harmful?
Thanks for your help.Regards,Leila

The BIF zparm does not affect, nor is it affected by the applcompat zparm

What IS affected is that you CANNOT substitute char9 for char BIF until you are at applcompat V11R1

Another related issue – timestamp compatibility issues must be resolved in applcompat V10R1 to avoid -180 on invalid timestamp – to my knowledge there is no band-aid zparm

RE: DB2 11 Migration-zparm parameters
(in response to Leila Hosseini)

Without being a real expert on this DDF setting, I quote from IBM web site:

"DISABLE_IMPCAST_NJV Specifies that the Db2 for z/OS disables implicit casting of input host variables from numeric data types to string data types, or from string data types to numeric data types, when the application is a non-Java client application that uses an IBM Data Server client or driver that is at Version 10.5 or earlier.

If DISABLE_IMPCAST_NJV is not specified, Db2 enables implicit casting of input host variables from numeric data types to string data types, or from string data types to numeric data types.

Db2 uses DISABLE_IMPCAST_NJV only if application compatibility is set to V10R1. If application compatibility is set to V11R1 or later, Db2 always does implicit casting."

So looks like you can migrate to V11 quite happily but use APPLCOMPAT V10R1, until non-Java Client application is fixed to use Valid values (implicitly castable).

Similarly use BIF_COMPAT until CHAR and VARCHAR on decimals are fixed in the problem areas. I appreciate that while it is possible to find problem CHAR and VARCHAR with Decimal arguments in static SQL, dynamic SQL use in Client Server applications is tricky to find I guess. Can use CHAR9 and VARCHAR9 once you are ready to go V11 NFM.

I had code to find in SYSPACKSTMT table all cases of CHAR and VARCHAR functions where a host variable had Decimal data type or DECIMAL function appeared, however collection of the appropriate IFCIDs 0366 and 0376 was also important to double check that and find Dynamic SQL usage.

Different Packages can be on different APPLCOMPAT settings for Static SQL, but BIND does not provide BIF_COMPAT.

You can't stay on V10 forever, and I don't see that staying on V10 has any advantage for you. V11 with APPLCOMPAT V10R1 is going to give you many improvements that do not need NFM. Also not all Static SQL Packages have to be held back to V10 functionality using BIND APPLCOMPAT I believe.

I am not aware of any timestamp errors due to RBA expansion

We are (for the most part) still applcompat V11R1; and done an RBA expansion in at least 1 subsystem (the hard way) and we have not seen any timestamp errors

What we have seen is explicit code with colons instead of periods in the timestamp literals

Subject: [DB2-L] - DB2 11 Migration-zparm parameters

Hello

I have a question for DB2 11 migration.

Currently in DB2 10 we have below parameters in zparm

BIF_COMPATIBILITY=V9_DECIMAL_VARCHAR,

DDF_COMPATIBILITY=(DISABLE_IMPCAST_NJV)

I am wondering to know ,is there any way to keep these parameters as is and use V11R1.?

Because I saw in the DB2  books that DB2 use
DISABLE_IMPCAST_NJV only in V10R1.

My second question is ,staying with V10R1 would be harmful?

Thanks for your help.

Regards,

Leila

DB2 11 Migration-zparm parameters
(in response to Leila Hosseini)
If you have an sql where you have a timestamp literal with colons, applcompat v10R1 will accept that – applcompat V11R1 will generate a -180

However, specifying a timestamp with periods rather than colons will be accepted in applcompat v10r1, REQUIRED in applcompat V11R1

Another related issue – timestamp compatibility issues must be resolved in applcompat V10R1 to avoid -180 on invalid timestamp – to my knowledge there is no band-aid zparm

Subject: [DB2-L] - DB2 11 Migration-zparm parameters

Hello

I have a question for DB2 11 migration.

Currently in DB2 10 we have below parameters in zparm

BIF_COMPATIBILITY=V9_DECIMAL_VARCHAR,

DDF_COMPATIBILITY=(DISABLE_IMPCAST_NJV)

Regards,

Leila
