I’d suggest you wait until you have some experience of working with DB2 then study the suggested reading materials for the test.

See https://www-03.ibm.com/certify/exam.html?id=C2090-320 and check out the ‘Exam Preparation’ link.

Good Luck

(in response to Chandrasekhar Baggu)
Chandrasekhar,

The certification is about understanding the material. If you’re new to DB2, you should be working on learning the material, not trying to pass the certification without knowing the product. Coursework, and/or mentored experience by someone senior, is vital in developing the understanding to make you a good SQL programmer, or DBA, or systems programmer. In addition, several good books are available for study, below:

· The DB2 9 Fundamentals Certification Study Guide by Roger Sanders is available, used, on Amazon, in paperback for about US$12, and can help you decide whether you want to pursue this course. (If you decide to take the course, I recommend at least getting the 10.1 guide, see next.)

· The DB2 10.1 Fundamentals Certification Study Guide (https://www.amazon.com/DB2-10-1-Fundamentals-Certification-Study/dp/1583473491) can help you get through if you have done some work and some learning, and will help you identify problem areas. (DB2 10 and DB2 11 are different but not enough that a comfortable passing grade on 10 is not a passing grade on 11.)

· For the DB2 z/OS DBA certification test, “DB2 11 for z/OS Database Administration: Certification Study Guide (DB2 DBA Certification)” by Susan Lawson: https://www.amazon.com/DB2-11-Database-Administration-Certification-ebook/dp/B01IJ6WY2I/ref=sr_1_10?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1519235409&sr=1-10&keywords=DB2 is very useful, as well as “The DB2 Developer’s Guide (6th ed.)” by Craig Mullins https://www.amazon.com/DB2-Developers-Guide-Solutions-Oriented-Capabilities-ebook/dp/B007Y6K9TK/ref=mt_kindle?_encoding=UTF8&me , which was mentioned in posts yesterday.

· Older (5th) editions of Craig’s work are available on Amazon for some quite small amounts ($8). They lack the most recent updates like the Analytics Accelerator (I _think_) but are good for fundamentals.

· For DB2 on LUW, if you’re working on that platform, there are several books which teach fundamentals. Author Roger Sanders is prolific and several others (some of whom follow this mailing list) have good works on programming and DBA here. Try searching for “DB2” on Amazon, and ignore anything older than five years.

****

Dig in. Hopefully, learn and enjoy.

There are several books you can purchase among those would be:

DB2 10.5 Fundamentals for LUW

DB2 11 for z/OS Database Administration (covers fundamentals and DBA test!)

There are also DB2 certification training courses at your regional IDUG conferences.

Good luck!

Not one of those courses in the exam preparation link will prepare you for the fundamentals exam. This is my opinion, of course. Yes, learning your craft will best prepare you for the exams, but if you are an z/OS DBA working with only a 3270 emulator then you will have to supplement your experience before taking the fundamentals exam. The books are your least expensive and best bet.

Cheers,

Dan

RE: Regarding Db2 11 fundamentals certification
(in response to Daniel Luksetich)

another great opportunity is at IDUG.  While I already had a pretty good understanding of Db2 prior, I never took the exams.  I attended my first IDUG last year and was lucky enough to take part in the DB2 11 for z/OS Database Administration Crammer Course which was offered on the Sunday.  This same course is being offered again this year.  If you feel confident in your knowledge of Db2 and are keen on taking the exams and WANT to pass, this is the course to take.  Susan does an amazing job walking through all of the material, and there is a lot of it!

My recommendation is to attend IDUG and take the Sunday educational seminar and take the exams while at the conference.

But to Daniel's point, learning your craft by hands on learning and from a mentor is the best way to go first!
